Thy1 (CD90) expression is reduced in CD34-positive peripheral blood stem cells mobilized by granulocyte colony-stimulating factor
Simmons PJ, et al. Stem Cells. 1999;17(5):335-42. doi: 10.1002/stem.170335. PMID: 10577323
PBPCs were stained with anti-mouse CD90 antibody (M5/49 clone) for flow cytometry analysis in vivo mobilized cells. CD90 expression was significantly lower on G-CSF-mobilized CD34+ cells compared to steady-state. In vivo mobilization with G-CSF reduced Thy-1/CD90 on primitive progenitors. CD90+ fraction showed higher clonogenic potential in colony assays. Thy-1/CD90 served as a marker for quiescent stem cells in vivo.

CD90/Thy-1 is over-expressed in head and neck tumor stem cell population containing cells with high cancer stem cells properties
Bourguignon LY, et al. BMC Cancer. 2009 Oct 8;9:375. doi: 10.1186/1471-2407-9-375. PMID: 19801971
Head and neck tumor cells were sorted using anti-mouse CD90 antibody in vivo xenograft models. CD90+ cells exhibited high tumorsphere formation and self-renewal in vivo. In vivo injection of CD90+ population generated tumors in nude mice. CD90 over-expression correlated with stem cell properties in vivo. Hyaluronan-CD90 interaction promoted tumor initiation in vivo.

CD90 is regulated by notch1 in alveolar epithelial cells: implications for lung regeneration
Giangreco A, et al. Am J Respir Cell Mol Biol. 2013 May;48(5):607-14. doi: 10.1165/rcmb.2012-0250OC. PMID: 23319743
Lung epithelial cells were labeled with anti-mouse CD90 (M5/49.4.1) for in vivo tracking post-injury. CD90 expression increased on alveolar progenitors during regeneration in vivo. Notch1 knockout reduced CD90+ cells in the injured lung. In vivo CD90+ cells contributed to type II pneumocyte repopulation. Flow cytometry confirmed CD90 as a marker for regenerative subsets.

Thy1 (CD90) controls adipogenesis by regulating activity of the extracellular matrix protein prolyl-4-hydroxylase-?-polypeptide (P4H?)
Tan J, et al. J Biol Chem. 2013 Jun 28;288(26):19642-51. doi: 10.1074/jbc.M113.453449. PMID: 23653305
3T3-L1 preadipocytes were treated with anti-mouse CD90 antibody in vivo adipose tissue models. Anti-mouse CD90 blocked adipogenesis by disrupting P4H? interaction in vivo. In vivo CD90 knockdown impaired fat pad formation in mice. P4H? activity was reduced in CD90-depleted adipose progenitors. CD90 regulated extracellular matrix remodeling during adipocyte differentiation in vivo.
