MB081-SL: SLpure LS total RNA isolation reagent
SLpure LS total RNA isolation reagent, a mono-phasic solution of phenol and guanidine isothiocyanate, is a ready-to-use reagent to isolate total RNA from whole blood and other liquid samples. During sample homogenization or lysis, SLpure LS total RNA isolation reagent maintains RNA integrity while disrupting cells and dissolving cell components. After chloroform is added and centrifugation, the solution is separated into the aqueous phase and the organic phase. RNA exclusively lies in the aqueous phase. RNA in the aqueous phase can be recovered by precipitation with isopropyl alcohol.
Total RNA isolated by SLpure LS total RNA isolation reagent can be used for Northern blot analysis, dot blot hybridization, poly(A)+ selection, in vitro translation, RNase protection assay, and molecular cloning.
Using SLpure LS total RNA isolation reagent, one can isolate small to large RNA species. For example, on an agarose gel, RNAs isolated from rat liver show discrete bands of high molecular weight RNA from 7 kb to 15 kb (composed of mRNA's and hnRNA's), two predominant ribosomal RNA bands at ~5 kb (28S rRNA) and at ~2 kb (18S rRNA), and low molecular weight RNA between 0.1 kb and 0.3 kb (tRNA, 5S rRNA). The A260/A280 ratio easily reaches 1.8 if isolated RNA samples are diluted into TE.
