Background of Anti-human CD56 Monoclonal Antibody (Clone: N901)

The recombinant N901 antibody binds to the human CD56 protein, a homophilic binding glycoprotein expressed on the surface of neurons, glia and skeletal muscle. CD56 is a marker of neural lineage commitment. CD56 expression is found in the hematopoietic system, natural killer cells, and other lymphoid cells, including gamma delta (γδ) T cells and activated CD8+ T cells, as well as on dendritic cells. CD56 has a role in cell–cell adhesion, neurite outgrowth, synaptic plasticity, and learning and memory.

"This work aimed to analyze the activation and differentiation of both circulating NKT-like cells and CD56− T cells during COVID-19 among intensive care unit (ICU) patients, moderate severity (MS) patients, and convalescents. Severe COVID-19 was accompanied by a decrease in the proportion of CD8+ T cells, mainly due to the CD56− cell death, and a redistribution of the NKT-like cell subset composition with a predominance of more differentiated cytotoxic CD8+ T cells. Overall, our findings suggest an antiviral role of CD56+ T cells in COVID-19."
