DNA hybrids, also known as R-loop structures when associated with a displaced single-stranded DNA strand, are nucleic acid structures formed by hybridization between an RNA strand and its complementary DNA strand. R-loops are generated during transcription and are involved in multiple biological processes, including transcriptional regulation, replication, transcription termination, genome stability, DNA damage response, and chromatin-associated regulation.
Physiological levels of DNA hybrids contribute to normal cellular functions, whereas abnormal accumulation of R-loops may lead to replication stress, DNA damage, genome instability, and disease-related phenotypes. Therefore, reliable detection of DNA hybrids is important for studies of transcription, genome maintenance, cancer biology, neurodegeneration, and nucleic acid metabolism.
The S9.6 monoclonal antibody is a widely used tool for the detection and enrichment of DNA hybrids and R-loop structures in molecular biology and epigenetics research.
