Description

Introduction
TNC (Tenascin C), also known as TN or HXB, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TNC gene. By means of Southern analysis of rodent-human somatic cell hybrids and by in situ hybridization using hexabrachion cDNA probes, Gulcher et al. (1990) localized the TNC gene to chromosome 9q32-q34. Olson and Srivastava (1996) reviewed processes involved in separation of the cardiac tube into the atria, ventricles, and outflow tract. They noted that tenascin is upregulated and NCAM is downregulated in the embryonic endocardial cushions. Gherzi et al. (1997) found that the TNC gene is subject to transcriptional control by OTX2.
