Introduction:
Protein kinase C zeta type, also known as nPKC-zeta, PRKCZ and PKC2, belongs to the AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. PRKCZ contains an N-terminal regulatory domain, followed by a hinge region and a C-terminal catalytic domain. Second messengers stimulate PKCs by binding to the regulatory domain, translocating the enzyme from cytosol to membrane, and producing a conformational change that removes autoinhibition of the PKC catalytic activity. Atypical PRKCZ exhibit an elevated basal enzymatic activity and are not regulated by diacylglycerol, calcium ions and phosphatidylserine. Calcium- and diacylglycerol-independent serine/threonine-protein kinase that functions in PI3K pathway ,MAP kinase cascade, mitogenic signaling, NF-kappa-B activation, cell proliferation and maintenance of long-term potentiation (LTP).
