Introduction
Cystathionine Beta-Lyase MetC (CBL) belongs to the family of Lyases, specifically the class of carbon-sulfur lyases. CBL catalyzes the chemical reaction converting L-cystathionine to L-homocysteine, NH3 and pyruvate. This reaction depends on pyridoxal phosphate as a cofactor. CBL participates in 5 metabolic pathways: methionine metabolism, cysteine metabolism, selenoamino acid metabolism, nitrogen metabolism, and sulfur metabolism.
