Introduction
High affinity immunoglobulin epsilon receptor subunit alpha, also known as Fc-epsilon RI-alpha, IgE Fc receptor subunit alpha, FCE1A and FCER1A, is a single-pass type I membrane protein which contains two Ig-like domains. FCER1A is a tetramer which consists of an alpha chain, a beta chain, and two disulfide linked gamma chains. FCER1A is a high affinity receptor, binds to the Fc region of immunoglobulins epsilon and plays a central role in allergic disease, coupling allergen and mast cell to initiate the inflammatory. Immediate hypersensitivity responses are characteristic of disorders such as hay fever and asthma. FCER1A with binding of allergen to receptor-bound IgE leads to cell activation and the release of mediators (such as histamine) responsible for the manifestations of allergy. The same receptor also induces the secretion of important lymphokines.
